Bifocal represent a different way of looking at the world, but most people adjust quite easily. People who have a presbyopia can get a good vision through Bifocal contact lenses. Presbyopia is the aging of the lens in the eye and the muscles that control the shape of the lens. It commonly occurs after the age 40, when the lens of the eye becomes more rigid and does not flex as easily. These lenses work much like bifocal eyeglasses. Bifocal Contact lenses have the power of two, on one lens. The top part of the lens provides correction for vision in distance and the Bottom segment provides correction for the near vision. They also come as both soft and rigid gas permeable lenses.

Designs

Bifocal contact lenses have been available since the 1930's. The first bifocal lenses looked just like a spectacle lens with a line in them. Now there are more than 130 designs on the market. The three major designs of bifocal contact lenses are simultaneous, concentric and alternating vision. Simultaneous vision designs fit centred on your cornea with both the distance-vision and near-vision prescriptions within the pupil area. In a concentric design, the centre portion of the lens contains the distance prescription and the outside portion contains the near prescription, or vice versa. Alternating vision designs work much like a bifocal eyeglass lens, in that the top of the lens has one prescription and the bottom has the other.

Benefits

Bifocals have a well-defined single visible line separating the two viewing zones. No few people need bifocal contacts, when the sun shines you need a pair of good reliable bi-focal sunglasses! Yes, Bifocal sunglasses provides the wearer with UV protection for simultaneous distant and near vision! Those who would like bifocal contact lenses should see an experienced eye care professional because they are difficult to fit.
